AMC 10/12 Summer Preparation Plan
With the exam dates confirmed, summer is the golden period for AMC 10/12 preparation. Here is a structured summer study plan to help you succeed!
Phase 1: Assess Your Starting Point and Identify Focus Areas
- Full-Length Mock Exams: Take a 75-minute timed mock exam using past papers from the last three years. Do not guess; leave questions blank if unsure, as incorrect guesses will be counted as errors.
- Create an “Error Analysis Log”: Categorize mistakes into three areas: knowledge gaps, slow pacing, and strategic errors. This will clarify your primary focus for subsequent study.
Phase 2: Address Weaknesses and Build a Knowledge System
- Follow the AMC Core Curriculum: Systematically study Algebra → Geometry → Number Theory → Combinatorics.
- Master High-Difficulty Topics: Use the Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) textbook series to focus on Number Theory and Combinatorics (e.g., modular arithmetic, inclusion-exclusion principle). These are typically challenging for students in traditional curricula but are crucial for achieving high scores.
- Daily Practice: Dedicate 2–3 hours to deep study each day and complete the corresponding chapter exercises.
Phase 3: Enhance Quality and Speed Through Practice
- Timed Practice: Complete at least three full past papers per week under strict 75-minute timing.
- Detailed Review: Track accuracy rates and time spent per module. Maintain an error log with detailed explanations for each mistake, and redo all incorrect problems until mastered.
