AMC-Related Math Competitions
The AMC is the entry point, not the whole map. The contests below run in parallel across Australia, Canada, the UK, and Asia, each rewarding the same problem-solving habits while opening different pathways and grade ranges for ambitious students.
Math competitions give students a stage to show mathematical talent, sharpen problem-solving, and strengthen academic profiles that admissions officers notice. Once a student is comfortable with the AMC, these six contests are the natural next moves — some broaden the age range down to primary school, others raise the ceiling toward olympiad-level proof writing. Australian Mathematics Competition
Run by the Australian Mathematics Trust across five levels from Grade 3 to 12; 25 multiple-choice plus 5 integer questions, scored out of 135, with open-ended problems 26–30 separating top performers.
Euclid Mathematics Contest
Hosted by the University of Waterloo for Grades 9–12 and often called the “TOEFL of mathematics”; ten full-solution questions in 150 minutes, with no multiple choice, drawing 20,000+ entrants a year.
Math Kangaroo
A global contest for Grades 1–12 founded in 1980 and active in China since 2019; six levels of multiple-choice questions (24 for the youngest, 30 from Level 3 up) emphasising curiosity over speed.
SASMO
The Singapore & Asian Schools Math Olympiad, founded in 2006, is a major Asian contest for Grades 1–12; 25 bilingual online questions split into multiple-choice and short-answer sections.
UKMT Challenges
The UK Mathematics Trust runs the UK’s largest national contests for ages 11–18, open globally; three 25-question challenges — Junior, Intermediate, and Senior — mapped to ascending grade bands.
British Mathematical Olympiad (BMO)
Organised by UKMT as the UK’s most competitive school contest; two olympiad rounds of timed long-answer proofs in number theory, algebra, geometry, and combinatorics that feed national-team selection.

Most of these run on multiple-choice or short-answer formats much like the AMC, so AMC preparation transfers directly. Euclid and the BMO push further into written solutions and proof, making them strong next steps once a student is scoring well on the AMC and AIME.
